Terra Firma Energy has entered into a long-term agreement with EDF to optimise its new 20MW flexible gas generation plant at Miners Road. This collaboration underscores Terra Firma Energy’s leadership in the flexible energy generation sector and its commitment to supporting the UK’s transition to a sustainable energy future.

The Miners Road plant, located in Wrexham, is designed to provide 20.7MW of electricity per hour, delivering reliable and dispatchable power during periods of extreme demand. This project plays a key role in assisting the National Grid by quickly providing backup electricity during peak demand or low renewable generation periods, ensuring a stable and secure electricity supply across the UK.

Terra Firma Energy’s innovative 20MW peaking plant will supply enough electricity to power approximately 47,000 average UK homes during peak times. By enhancing the UK’s capacity to utilise renewable and sustainable energy sources, the plant contributes to balancing the energy grid and smoothing the transition to a low-carbon future. The plant is set to commence operations in December 2024. As part of the agreement, EDF will utilise its advanced flexibility platform, PowerShift, and its dedicated 24/7 Trading Team to optimise the plant’s performance. EDF will manage all trading activities, including gas, electricity, and carbon markets, and strategically dispatch the asset to maximise spark spreads and revenue generation.
